Moments ago, PDP Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar pulled out last minute from the 2019 #Presidentialdebate because of President Buhari’s absence which he described as a slight on other candidates present for the debate.
While many Nigerians agree with his move, UK based comedian, Wale Gates says, ‘Atiku’s advisers didn’t get this move right at all. This was your “See I’m here, I care, I feel your pain, I can hear you, the President couldn’t be bothered” moment and you blew it’.

Atiku’s advisers didn’t get this move right at all. This was your “See I’m here, I care, I feel your pain, I can hear you, the President couldn’t be bothered” moment and you blew it. #2019Debate ??

Why rush back from America then? Big man politics will not kill us in ??. Leaving the debate venue says a lot about your temperament as Commander in Chief and President. The momentum was on your side.

To those who say @atiku would have been jumped on by the other three candidates, yes and rightly so. But I know my fellow Nigerians the fact that he even turned up and PMB didn’t will warm people’s minds towards him.
He won’t have lost nothing.— Wale Gates ???? (@walegates) January 19, 2019
Whether Atiku wins or Buhari returns, I hope a member of the next class of the National Assembly pushes to make debates compulsory at all levels of our democratic process.
Also compulsory media chats. You can’t be nominally accountable to a people, yet refuse to speak to them.

You don’t jeopardise your position as the major challenger by letting the spotlight on a debate be on you, these things are straightforward calls.
You have more to lose and less to gain, a straightforward no-brainer.
I’d like to see Atiku debate too but not be a martyr ??

A good call. Except Oby, ( I’m still snooping…) the other candidates are proxies of APC. In fact, ANN gets directives directly from the VP’s office.
Needless debating with proxies @Atiku.— Great Oracle (@AbdulMahmud01) January 19, 2019
Atiku showed up to debate.
Buhari didn’t show up to debate.Ultimately, it’s his call and right as a candidate to not put himself in topdog position to be attacked by underdogs.
Far better to let underdogs have some spotlight and let’s see them.

Atiku beat a retreat knowing he doesn’t stand a chance with prof Moghalu and Oby in any debate

Atiku supporters think they’re doing something with the “He came but left because Buhari wasn’t present” narrative. Shior.#2019Debate
